Drive-thrus have been trending since the pandemic broke out in spring 2020. In an April 2024 reader pulse survey, readers of rd+d shows that the trend was in no danger of waning.
When thinking of site selection, 47% of restaurant development + design readers say the hottest real estate type is any site that can accommodate drive-thrus.
Stand-alone sites were the hottest real estate type for 25% of readers. Another 14% of readers said end caps were the hottest real estate type right now. Pad sites were hot for 9% of readers and inline locations were the hottest real estate type for just 5% of readers.
