An overwhelming majority — 70.73% — of restaurant development + design readers surveyed in June 2021 said construction and material costs are substantially higher this year when compared to past years. Another 17.07% of readers surveyed in June classify construction and materials costs as “somewhat higher” this year. Just 1.22% said “costs are about the same.”
Not a single respondent said their construction and materials costs were lower in 2021. However, 10.98% said they had no opinion on construction costs because they did not plan to build any new units this year.
