How often should a restaurant design be refreshed? While there’s no rule of thumb, 42.17% of rd+d subscribers felt a restaurant design should be refreshed at least once every 5 years. Coming in second, 32.53% said a restaurant design should be refreshed once every 7 years and, in third, 14.46% surveyed said it should be done at least once every 10 years. Just 6.02% of subscribers said that a restaurant design should only be refreshed only when sales start to soften. The remaining respondents said it was situational and depended on what the operator or client wanted.
rd+d’s ongoing research project periodically surveys qualified subscribers on the state of restaurant development and design. This survey was fielded in December 2021.
