As they head into the final quarter of 2024, readers of restaurant development + design were mostly split on how business in 2024 has been compared to their projections for the year, per a pulse survey fielded in August.
For 39% of survey respondents, 2024 has been worse than projected. This aligns with some industry indicators. In June, market research firm Technomic revised its 2024 restaurant expectations forecast downward. Technomic now projects industry growth will come at 3.8% compared to its earlier 5.3% increase.
It wasn’t all gloomy, however, as 23% of rd+d survey respondents said that business was better than they had projected it to be. Another 24% said business was as good as they had projected it to be.
Finally, just 4% said business in 2024 was as bad as they had projected it would be.
