Fast-casual has been the “it” segment in foodservice for a few years now. With so many restaurants in this one space, it’s no surprise that some emerging concepts continue to find ways to appeal to customers that more established fast-casual restaurants may miss. One of these is Super Chix, a Dallas-based operation that describes itself as “a classed up chicken joint.”

Fast-casual concept Uncle Maddio's Pizza added a new minority owner to its roster. Rutherford Seydel, attorney, conservationist and business investor, who has been part of the Atlanta Hawks ownership since 2003, acquired a minority share of Uncle Maddio's and has agreed to serve on the Board of Advisors.

Multi-concept operator Glacier Restaurant Group has bought the Max & Erma's restaurant chain from American Blue Ribbon Holdings (ABRH). Max & Erma's is a casual dining concept with 51 locations in 10 states, primarily in the Midwest.

Ty Neal, his brother Mark, and partners Drew Kim and Perry Smith, who left the company in 2012, opened the first Matchbox restaurant on H Street in Washington, D.C.’s Chinatown district in 2003. They rehabbed an old building themselves, transforming it into what would end up being the prototype for a casual-dining brand with staying power and growth potential.
