Global Italian casual dining chain Vapiano opened its first location in Glasgow, Scotland in the newly refurbished George Hotel building on the city’s “Style Mile.”
The two-story, 293-seat restaurant features light woods, big windows and soft colors. Communal-style long oak tables feature tabletop herb gardens where guests can pick their own garnishes.
While Vapiano is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, the restaurant’s Italian flavors are highlighted via a wall-length art installation detailing the skyline of Turin, Italy.
Classic Italian favorites are served directly from chefs in the open kitchen in a cafeteria-style line. The pasta and dolci are made fresh each day. The pizza dough, sauces, dressings, and pesto are all prepared in-house as well.
At the end of each diner’s visit, payment is made via a smart-card system, which adds everything to their card as they order.
The Glasgow unit makes the chain’s fifth opening in the UK, following London, Manchester and Edinburgh.
