Giostra by Fabio Viviani, the newest restaurant of celebrity chef Fabio Viviani, has opened in South Barrington, Ill.
Named after the Italian word for “carousel,” Giostra pays homage to the carousel located in Piazza Della Repubblica in Florence, Italy.
The design aims for thoughtful and refined immersion. The entryway features rows of lighting that are reminscent of being on a carousel. A restored antique carousel horse sits as the focal piece of the entryway, adding whimsy and nostalgia.
The bar features bright red booths that pay homage to classic Italian eateries and sleek bar stools with clean silhouettes to keep things modern. Greenery adds a touch of nature, creating a welcoming and balanced environment.
The main dining rooms are clad in floor-to-ceiling wallpaper designed to look like traditional wood moldings. A curated collection of vintage carousel images line the walls,
paying homage to Giostra’s namesake. Bright orange drum pendants printed with carousel images, custom-made by slick+designusa, add an unexpected pop of whimsy overhead.
“We wanted to create a space where guests feel transported — not just to Italy but to a place that feels familiar and magical,” says Principal Designer and Founder of slick+designusa, Rocco Laudizio. “Every detail tells a story, from the antique carousel horse to the blend of rustic and refined finishes.”
