Blue Collar, Miami
Recently reopened after a renovation, Blue Collar is chef/owner Danny Serfer’s love letter to mid-century modern design. With the help of Samantha McKenna of Chelsea Design and Joey Halpern of Joseph Halpern Woodworking, Serfer designed the new space himself and sourced much of the decor from thrift shops. Serfer scoured thrift stores for a vintage credenza and a gold-framed mirror with matching metal pinwheel light fixtures. Outside on the patio, Serfer placed a smattering of vintage ice chests and coolers in place of planters.
Guests will find much that is brand new, too, including the cabinetry surrounding the bar and the restaurant’s tables, which were refinished to Serfer’s specifications — the tabletops stripped and varnished, and their more basic bases replaced with gold and black metal legs. The 4,000-square-foot space includes an expanded bar from the previous iteration, which was located just across the street. The restaurant seats 140 indoors and out.
