Positioned alongside the iconic Wrigley Field, Gensler Chicago led the architecture and interior design of the 23,000-square-foot Draftkings Sportsbook — the largest retail sportsbook in the country connected to a sports venue. The year-round facility features a food and beverage component and is open on both gamedays and non-gamedays. The two-level facility prioritized the historic preservation guidelines of the 109-year-old stadium while creating a modern, street-facing structure to welcome patrons. Notably, the footprint is in the shape of a triangle, which presents some challenges and opportunities.
The design utilizes the triangular plot strategically, taking advantage of the unique shape to create an impactful viewing experience for all guests. Floor-to-ceiling windows connect the interior and exterior. Tiered seating, semi-private group areas and a monumental curved video wall enhance the immersive, sports-filled experience.
Every visitor has a sightline to the action — there’s not a bad seat in the house. Bar seats have optimal viewing of the monumental video wall, while the dining area features a variety of table sizes.
Additional theatre-style seating on the mezzanine includes individual chairs and personal drink tables, inviting patrons to relax and stay awhile. Two larger, semi-private areas can be rented out by groups. Each of these areas include reconfigurable furniture, dedicated televisions and space for buffet foodservice.
