In the latest pulse survey conducted by restaurant development + design magazine, 74% of respondents said construction and material costs are substantially higher in 2022 when compared to 2021.
Another 9% report costs are somewhat higher than last year. Just 4% said that construction and material costs remain about the same as 2021.
That doesn’t seem to be stopping opening plans for most, however. Just 13% of respondents reported that they did not plan to build any new units in 2022.
rd+d’s ongoing research project periodically surveys qualified subscribers on the state of restaurant development and design. This survey was fielded in early August 2022.
