Concessions International (CI) has opened Bar Symon, a bistro-style concept created by James Beard award-winning Iron Chef Michael Symon, in Dulles International Airport's Terminal D.
The restaurant is a joint venture between CI and Cleveland-based United Concessions Group (UCG), an Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) owned by Hayat Rababy.
Symon combined his experience operating award-winning restaurants and his frustrations with finding quality food options while traveling to create the concept. His first Bar Symon opened in Pittsburgh International Airport in August of 2012.
"Bar Symon is a great American bistro for airport guests looking for something different than your typical bar and grill," says Donata Russell Major, CI's chief executive officer. "Chef Symon has become a household name across the country and many diners will jump at the chance to try his unique menu items."
Bar Symon's menu features new and traditional American cuisine with an emphasis on comfort food. The concept touts "farm-to-terminal" cuisine served in an environmentally sustainable establishment.
UCG holds exclusive rights to develop Bar Symon units in airports. CI also plans to open a DC Craft and Chef Geoff's location in Dulles International Airport and a Taylor Gourmet Deli in Reagan National Airport early this year.
