Chef and Brewmaster Jared Rouben opened culinary brewery Moody Tongue in 2014 and recently added a Tasting Room to his Chicago location.
The 2,000-square-foot, 75-seat space, designed by Jesse and Colleen Neuhaus of Mo Faux Studio, offers a peek into the brewery via wall-to-wall windows and a mix of seating options. A 25-seat marble-topped bar is the centerpiece of the space, which mixes mid-century modern and industrial tavern aesthetics in the 100-year-old building that once housed a glass factory. A fireplace, black leather lounge seating and custom bookshelves lined with books — some dating back to the early 1900s — from Rouben’s days as a student at The Siebel Institute of Technology, which offers courses in brewing and distilling, provide warmth to the space.
