While no one aesthetic dominates restaurant spaces, several design concepts continue to move the needle on the projects of readers of restaurant development +design. “White and/or bright to highlight cleanliness and transparency” was the top aesthetic trend with 34% of survey respondents.

Another 25% of readers surveyed said that “luxurious, immersive and glamorous” was the right aesthetic to move the needle on their projects. That’s a big bump from just last year when only 11% of survey takers said luxe and glamorous was moving the needle on their projects.

An additional 23% noted the answer was “biophilic design or bringing the natural world inside.” This is a decline from 2021 when 43% of readers named biophilic design as their top aesthetic trend.

Finally, 18% offered their own takes for what is currently moving the needle on their projects. Answers included: “comforting and relaxing with a complementary color scheme,” “strong storytelling,” and “eye-catching with a lot of photo ops.”

rd+d periodically surveys subscribers on the state of restaurant development and design. This survey was fielded in November 2023.
