Here are some interesting stories from the editor’s desk this month. 

Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs signed a development deal with WAHI Brands Inc. The partnership will bring a 10-stores to Virginia.

Founded in 1998 by Scott Jennings, the Arizona-based Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs is a cannabis-themed sub-company. The counterculture-themed brand now has more than 70 locations in 15 states with more shops on the way.

WAHI has its eyes set on opening its first location in Richmond or Hampton Roads, Va. in 2025. This will be WAHI Brands’ eighth Cheba Hut store overall and its first in Virginia. The franchisees plan to eventually own as many as 35 in New Mexico, Texas, Montana and Virginia.

  • Cousins Maine Lobster welcomed new franchisees in Jacksonville, Fla. The newest unit is the brand’s 75th overall. Cousins has 4 brick-and-mortar restaurants and 71 food trucks with a reach across more than 30 states.
  • Automated pizzeria PizzaForno signed a 40-unit development agreement in Michigan. This expansion includes five new locations in Clarkston, Caledonia, Flint and Troy, Mich., as well as two automated pizzerias at the Amazon Distribution Center in Grand Rapids.

  • The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar celebrates 14 Years in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Yum China Holdings, Inc. opened the 1,000th KFC location in China in the Guangzhou market. Along with this milestone, a new side-by-side KCOFFEE cafe was also unveiled. Yum China has expanded this model to over 500 locations nationwide and is on track to open 600 by year-end.
  • Stoner's Pizza has opened its 50th location nationwide.
  • Wendy’s celebrates the 55th birthday of its Frosty.
