Steakhouses have been evolving for some time, deemphasizing formality and dark and brooding interiors in favor of a lighter, brighter and less fussy overall design. One key trend, according to 73% of rd+d readers surveyed in August 2025, is including regional or localized design elements to create a sense of place.

The next most popular response with 56% of readers, is the addition of elevated zones to create personalized experiences. Examples of these zones include private dining areas, chef’s tables, club-style lounges, etc.

Gender-inclusive luxury is popular with 30% of readers surveyed. That means a decreased emphasis on traditionally masculine aesthetics to engage a broader demographic.

25% of readers note that higher-tech designs were popular and meant to appeal to younger consumers. Finally, 20% of readers surveyed feel that traditional — dark woods, white tablecloths and plush chairs — are still popular.
