It’s taking longer than expected to get permits and plans approved, according to 62.2% of restaurant development + design readers who participated in a survey fielded in June.

One respondent expanded on the problem, saying, “Processing has gotten to be a larger variable with most agencies transitioning to electronic submittal/review. Some are turning reviews around faster while others seem to be using the virtual process as an excuse.”

Another 23.17% say it’s talking about the same amount of time, as usual, to get permits pulled and plans approved. Happily, 7.32% reported that it’s taking less time than usual to get permits pulled and plans approved.

rd+d launched a yearlong research project that will periodically survey qualified subscribers on the state of restaurant development and design. Each issue in 2021 will feature new data collected from very recent reader surveys.
