In a pulse survey fielded in February, 90% of rd+d readers reported feeling optimistic about the state of restaurant development and openings for 2023 and 2024.

These results were a bit more bullish than the National Restaurant Association’s recently released “2023 State of the Industry” report, which categorized operators as “cautiously optimistic” as just 23% were expecting lower sales in 2023 compared to 2022. 44% think sales will be at 2022 levels and 33% of operators think that their restaurant’s sales in 2023 will be higher than in 2022, per the NRA’s study.

rd+d’s ongoing research project periodically surveys qualified subscribers on the state of restaurant development and design. This survey was fielded in early February 2023.
