Fast-casual vegan restaurant chain Native Foods Cafe has opened the first of eight units planned for the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia market.

Located in D.C.'s Golden Triangle neighborhood, the newest unit seats 116 and is the chain's first on the East Coast.

Founded in Palm Springs, Calif., in 1994, Native Foods Café began expanding in 2011 to its current 22 locations. In addition to California, the company operates several units in Chicago (above), where it is now headquartered, as well as in Oregon and Colorado. A second D.C.-area unit, in the city's Penn Quarter, is slated to open in November.
