In a survey fielded in December, readers of restaurant development + design magazine detailed what most influences their material and finish selections. Answers revealed a mix of reasons but aesthetic considerations was the top vote getter, earning a response rate of 26%.

The second and third considerations were a tie, with 21% of readers saying cost and availability was the top influence in their materials and finish selections and 21% of readers saying client’s brand identity was the top influence.

An additional 16% of respondents said sustainability and performance were the most influential factor in selecting materials and finishes. And the remaining 16% of survey respondents said durability and long-term maintenance concerns were the most influential factors in material selection.
