Chicago’s bustling River North neighborhood saw a new addition to its nightlife scene with Joy District, a new, multi-level restaurant and lounge from the team behind Hubbard Inn, Barn & Company and Pomp & Circumstance.
Starting with the ground floor dining room and elevated library and lounge, guests will experience a modern American menu by Chef Matt Wilde with playful, sharable dishes like grilled Spanish octopus tacos, pork belly and ostrich meatball ramen and a line of “lollipops,” including chicken, tiger shrimp and smoked pork rib skewers. The first level also includes an intimate private dining area set in a vintage elevator shaft.
A sexy second floor bar boasts intimate lounge seating and an area for dancing. The floor-to-ceiling windows and large wrap-around bar create an open and airy atmosphere to enjoy the thoughtful mixology program featuring signature cocktails with a strong emphasis on vodka. The 24-foot ceilings allow for a special building-within-a-building architectural element that houses a mezzanine bar, VIP room and additional private event space.
Opening just in time for alfresco dining season, a chic 3,000-square-foot rooftop offers a getaway in the heart of the city. The lively bar offers a curated menu of shared bites and cocktails including punch service. With sweeping city views, the roof serves as a sophisticated playground, perfectly perched above bustling Hubbard Street.
Red and metallic hues throughout the space set the tone for a dynamic atmosphere that feels both energetic and inviting, while still maintaining an urban vibe indicative of Chicago. Large velvet booths and high-top seating are complemented by vintage light fixtures. Custom floor-to-ceiling graffiti art and gallery walls of stimulating and sexy imagery all bleed from the two-story high brick wall. Joy District also boasts the first kinetic lighting installation outside of Las Vegas. The fixture will be the first pioneered dance rig in the city of Chicago that is pixel-mapped and moves independently, creating a 3D appearance.
